One Network: Presenting The New World Order for The Supply Chain

CIO Vendor Today, the majority of companies are looking to leverage the cloud for predictive and actionable supply network operations, integrated financial measurement, integrated business planning, and pretty integrated everything. Unfortunately, breaking away from old ERP processes is not as easy as the popular belief suggests; largely owing to the traditional sense of connecting partners and locking the partners into the chain paradigm and curtaining the potential gains that are possible with the new age technologies. In 2002, Greg Brady, a Supply Chain visionary and Ranjit Notani, a pioneer in multi enterprise collaboration technology, came to the conclusion that the traditional paradigm of business to business collaboration built around enterprise centric software was fundamentally flawed. They believe that businesses must take an outside in network view and work together as a network to serve the end consumer.

In May 2003, the duo acquired a cloud based logistics software company, and founded One Network Enterprises with a vision to create consumer driven business networks. They developed a network platform that enabled entire business communities to collaborate and work together to serve the consumer. Brady and Notani brought the network way of conducting business just as LinkedIn did so to managing professional contacts. “Think of One Network as ‘multi enterprise ERP’ meets LinkedIn. Network participants join the network, then establish partnerships with only the businesses your organization would like to transact with, and share only the data your organization wants to share, and vice versa”, explains Nandan Narvekar, Country Head, One Network.

Based out of Dallas, One Network Enterprises’ Real Time Value Network(RTVN) is world’s first many to many supply chain network in the cloud and also the first realtime decision making suite for autonomous supply chain management. All execution data is captured in realtime, enabling businesses to compare plans with what has transpired or is currently happening, and execute plans across its operations and trading partners. The result is a single platform based system for strategic and tactical planning that coordinates and synchronizes end customer demand from the point of consumption to raw material suppliers. It is the only multi enterprise, continuous, and integrated planning and execution system available in the market, that scales and enables retailers, carriers, 3PL's, manufacturers and suppliers to intelligently manage their supply chains securely.

One Network was founded on 5 key Pillars
•Single Version of Truth (SVOT) across all parties– permissions based multiparty and multi echelon network model enables trust and accurate realtime sharing of information and decisions. All parties work on the same consumer driven goals, allowing for harmonization of master data, transactional data and both internal and external process flows. The value of SVOT is reflected in greatly simplified processes, reduced system related lead times, elimination of stale data, reduced variability, and improved financial results.

•Modularity and Adaptability- Packaged software find it difficult to adapt to new business processes and technologies. While it may be possible in some cases to adapt packaged software with bolt on customization, significant effort, time & money, it often creates an imposing technical debt that constrains future options for both IT and business. Adaptability is becoming critical for world class performance. One Network’s cloud business network offers modular and open technology which allows companies to do more, better and faster. As technology shifts, so does the platform. Blockchain exemplifies this today. One Network has been on the leading edge of adopting Blockchain technologies deploying some of the first in production solutions on Ethereum. Modular technology leverages modelling and permissions to provide SVOT to all parties. Backward compatible API’s allow for a supportable dual platform strategy to embrace co-existence of existing systems and new systems and also network of networks. One Network’s SDK and Open Development Studios allows for supportable module extension and ultra fast creation of new capabilities. All platform, service and application layers are made available to developers: same look and feel, same transaction systems, and same master data, etc. This enables tailored solutions to inherit all existing frameworks into customer modules along with supportable APIs for future extension. Such open extensible architecture enables connections back to ERP and IT point systems to provide a bridge to existing investments while not hindering forward movement for IT and business. The modular adaptive design enables agile and rapid deployment, lower cost of ownership, and openness for future change.

•Network Capabilities– Every industry has a unique set of challenges and ways in which it operates. One Network’s Industry Templates embrace these industry standards and best practices. The modules & functional capabilities are founded on Demand Driven principles, integrating Planning and Execution that drive a common network objective, i.e.to reduce cost and improve service levels for all parties in the network. In this model it is not only about single parties achieving optimal results, but rather the common purpose of meeting the end consumer needs and expectations.

•Intelligent Autonomous Agents– One Network has developed multiple types of autonomous algorithms that execute on the real time SVOT. These agents are able to sense, respond, and make intelligent decisions and execute those decisions autonomously or collaborate with users to solve short term and strategic issues. Objective functions can be set to optimize across network. These goals drive both decision making and machine learning agents. Agents work together across the end-to-end
Supply Chain to deliver superior performance compared to traditional isolated planning algorithms. Agents can run across any time horizon down to millisecond accessing realtime data and transactional lead times versus fixed manually set lead times. Agents execute on sub networks incrementally to minimize system perturbation and they run continuously and incrementally with the ability to weight the cost of change. This enables companies to move away from decision support on batch data towards fully autonomous and continuous optimization across the entire value chain. This also reduces user dependency, reduces inventory, improves service, revenue and market share.

•Agile and Self Funding Methodology– To reduce the risks of network deployments to a minimum, One Network has a value first and agile implementation methodology that leverages a sprint approach. With time-to value as a key goal, project teams identify low hanging fruits to generate business value so that project phases can be self funded every step of the way.

Intelligent Logistics for Complete Lifecycle of Transportation Processes
One Network’s Intelligent Logistics solution is a non-traditional Transport Management System (TMS). It is part of RTVN to empower customers to drive the complete lifecycle of transportation processes with precision, including procurement and contracting, shipment planning, execution and tracking, yard management, appointment scheduling, financial and claims settlement all on a single, cloud based platform. This platform delivers a highly differentiated set of capabilities to integrate with the demand driven buying and selling processes, enabling customers to concurrently optimize service levels, inventory and logistics. This makes the Intelligent Logistics solution one of the strongest contenders in the market swarmed with old generation transportation solutions.

In an illustrative example, an automotive aftermarket parts & spares client’s customer and partner were unable to connect functional processes across multiple business segments. Poor route planning and execution capabilities resulted in high transportation costs. The organizations involved lack item level detail: dealer & retail locations had limited visibility on inbound shipments. With Intelligent Logistics, the client received dynamic route planning for inbound, interfacility, and outbound dealer movements. The client also enjoyed full shipment lifecycle execution and milestone management for 650,000+ inbound, redistribution and outbound shipments annually. A comprehensive EDI & system integration services was also at work. This automotive enterprise also received 3PL partner role enabling collaborative carrier and shipment management with visibility for 3PL’s and customers. The network across 4600 suppliers, 4500 dealers, and 254 carriers were implemented in 6 months. These facilitations reduced annual transportation costs by 20 percent and the planning cycle time & manual planning requirements. It also improved material flow throughout the network. As a result of the value first and agile deployment, improvements in service levels, on time service, and transit time reliability were already attained within a short timeframe.

When Buyer, Suppliers, Shippers and Carriers Come Together
Further into the TMS provisions, One Network has introduced the Global Logistics Gateway (GLG). This solution enables interoperability between supply chain operating networks through open standard based authentication and public API based process orchestration to any buy/sell system or any transport management system. Primarily, this solution enables digital network of networks so that the trading partner ecosystem can as a whole increase service levels, improve asset utilization, and reduce costs. The Global Logistics Gateway brings trading partners together to match supply to demand for both product and freight.

Trading partners connected through the GLG are already connected to the RTVN which includes industry networks for CPG, HT & Electronics, Automotive, Industrial Manufacturing, Health Care, Food Service, Retail, Distribution and Public Sector, in addition the network for Logistics. One Network has a network of 17k+ carriers and logistics service providers, all connected to the same multiparty platform via the GLG. New TMS customers can leverage this vast network of transportation providers with no additional onboarding requirements. Carriers can simply create a new partnership to begin transacting for any other organizations with the network. Customers can also gain access to realtime shipment location data as well as additional carrier information and score carding.

More Industry First Solutions
For 17 years, One Network has continued to develop the solution around the principle of modularity and adaptability. As mentioned earlier, the company will continue to abide by the principal. More importantly, within the RTVN and TMS solution, One Network will be leveraging blockchain technology to implement chain of custody and serialized tracking services for its customers to ensure secure transport of goods across industries such as pharmaceutical, automotive, and food distribution. In addition, the company continues to develop new Autonomous agents to optimize and execute for specific customer needs.

With such exhilarating offerings that are 'industry first', One Network will continue to innovative solutions to improve end-to-end supply chain performance, customer service levels, and operational performance.
